For researchers and practitioners in MHPSS from the Global South
We envision inclusive academic publishing, encompassing the knowledge and experience of researchers and practitioners from the Global South. Our writing workshops are a critical part of our mission to bridge these gaps in MHPSS.
Promoting inclusivity in academic writing
Supported by Intervention Journal, ARQ provides writing workshops to support practitioners and early career researchers in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), including those from low and middle-income countries (LMIC), in growing their academic writing skills. Writing workshops support actors with limited backgrounds in academic writing to build the skills needed to document and disseminate knowledge on MHPSS in line with the standards of peer-reviewed journals.
Sponsoring Intervention writing workshops
International or local partners interested in sponsoring a writing workshop for a group of MHPSS practitioners or early career researchers will work closely with the development team to co-design the workshop. The writing workshop curriculum will be tailored to meet the needs of the specific target group.
The writing workshop lasts 5 to 6 days, is co-facilitated by ARQ and Intervention staff and includes follow up calls to bring the writing to a successful submission. The workshop aims to:
- Increase individual capacity in academic writing;
- Contribute to development of individual academic profiles;
- Globally disseminate knowledge on MHPSS and related fields through the Intervention journal;
- Support academic profiling of organisations as generating evidence based work;
- Results in submission of a complete manuscript at Intervention or any other journal.

Writing workshops in Kenya and Burundi
In 2023, ARQ provided an Academic Writing Workshop for researchers at Amref International University in Mombasa, Kenya, within the framework of the DiSoCo international research consortium. In early 2024, ARQ collaborated with The Denis Mukwege Centre of Excellence (CEDM) at Evangelical University in Africa (UEA) to provide a writing workshop to early career researchers from UEA and its partners in the DRC, Rwanda, and Burundi. The writing workshop was followed by a training of trainers (ToT) to ensure academic writing skills can be institutionalised within the university.
